A Message from the President of
Crisis Recovery International

On one of my trips to a country impacted by disaster, I was a volunteer at a local orphanage. While I was working at the orphanage a young mother came in with a beautiful child about 5 years old. The young mother said her husband had died as a result of the disaster, and she could not provide for herself and this child. She left the child in the arms of an attendant at the orphanage while she walked down the steps and through the gate. The child screamed and cried and struggled to follow her mother. Every day the child would go to the front door of the orphanage, stand there, and tears would stream down her face. No matter what the workers did to distract her, she would stand at the front door, waiting.
That was a turning point for me. I have been in the disaster response field enough years to know that there were things that could be done to help restore self-sufficiency to people impacted by disaster or other traumatic events. There are men who are supporting large extended families who have lost their business and their ability to provide for their family. I am especially concerned about women in developing nations who are suddenly widowed, as their options are limited. A 14 year old girl I met had to quit school to help provide for her family because they lost everything.
I envisioned a company that would not give hand-outs, but work with local communities to set up women and men in a business or give them the education they need to provide for their families.
That is the mission of Crisis Recovery International.
Please consider giving the equivalent of 1 hour of your salary. So much can be accomplished in developing nations with your help.
